The term “Berean” originates
from the
New Testament book of Acts,
Chapter 17 verse 11.
It reads:
“Now the Bereans … Received
the message with great eagerness,
and examined the Scriptures
every day to see if what
Paul said was true.”
According to the account in the book
of Acts, the Apostle Paul was delighted with the people in the
city of Berea (a Grecian city) because they didn’t simply
believe every word that Paul told them concerning Jesus the
Messiah. They weren’t convinced until they went to the
Old Testament Scriptures and searched for the answers themselves
to verify that what Paul was saying was actually true. Once
they understood that Jesus was sent from God to save them from
their sins, they believed in Jesus and also inherited eternal
life with God.
